Crop PDF finds the content on each page by rendering it and looking for anything that is not white (any pixel darker than a light threshold), then sets the page's crop box to that area plus a 4-point margin. Scanned documents with wide grey borders, slides with dead space and pages with excessive margins tighten up without any manual dragging.
Blank pages are left at full size, and a crop that would leave almost nothing is skipped, so a page is never reduced to a sliver by a stray dot.
